New Events at DCA

25th June 2009

This week we have our second Discovery Family Film Club screening; find out why the night is so mysterious in Nocturna, and don’t miss your chance to take part in our FREE Nocturna workshop on Saturday. It’s also your last chance to see Looking For Eric at DCA, where devoted fan Eric Bishop seeks the help of his hero, Eric Cantona, in confronting his past. This Thursday sees the screening of the first part of the Red Riding trilogy as part of the Dundee Literary Festival – don’t miss author David Peace’s introduction to the film.

Everlasting Moments

Everlasting Moments is the true story ordinary housewife, Maria Larrson, whose creative potential was realised by the power of photography. Struggling to care for her large family and her philandering, abusive, alcoholic dockworker husband, Maria decides to pawn an old unused camera she won in a lottery. The owner of a local camera shop refuses and insists instead that she try it. Maria takes his advice and the effect is immediate - she is hooked on the power of photography. Bathed in natural light, Everlasting Moments is a tender contemplative story of hope and a tribute to an extraordinary woman and the transformative power of artistic expression.

Helen

Helen - who has lived in institutions all her life, is parentless, and has never been close to anyone - agrees to play the part of a missing girl in a police reconstruction. Gradually, carefully, she begins to immerse herself in the role and into the lost girl’s life. Visually and aurally arresting, Helen has an atmosphere thick with tension. The colour yellow never seemed so haunting.

Red Riding 1974

In collaboration with the Dundee Literary Festival, DCA is delighted to be celebrating contemporary screen adaptations with these rare screenings of the trilogy Red Riding, David Peace’s riveting quartet about a region traumatised by the Yorkshire Ripper murders. David Peace will be at DCA for this screening to introduce the film.

And there’s more

Also showing this week at DCA; this week is your last chance to see Looking For Eric - Mancunian postman Eric seeks out this hero, Eric Cantona, for some philosophical advice to help him confront his past; this week’s Sundays With Bond film is Goldfinger, which was, to many, the quintessential Bond film. This time Bond pit his wits against a memorable villain, Auric Goldfinger.

We have the fantastic Nocturna for Discovery Family Film Club this week. Ever wonder what it is that makes the night so mysterious? Find out in this fantastical adventure, and don’t miss the FREE workshop at 12.15 before Saturday’s screening.
