Seven teams from the University of Dundee will be aiming for glory this weekend when they travel to Sheffield for the finals of the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Championships.
The women’s volleyball side will be leading the University’s charge after enjoying unprecedented success this season.
Having already won the Scottish Universities League and Cup double and beaten Loghborough University, one of the pre-tournament favourites, in an earlier round the squad heads south in a confident mood.
Other teams will represent the University in athletics, climbing, fencing, karate, squash and ultimate Frisbee at the championships, which will feature a number of 2012 Olympic hopefuls.
Paul McPate, Assistant Director of the University’s Institute of Sport and Exercise praised all those taking part, saying, “All the students have worked hard and deserve their chance to compete against the very best in their sports. I’m sure they will do the University proud.”
The BUCS Championships is the premier sporting event for students in Britain, involving almost 5000 competitors across 24 sports. This year’s event will be televised by Channel 4 and culminates on Sunday, March 15th.
