A Segue into Tights
11th August 2009
Summer may not be over yet (we protest, clinging onto bright dresses and short shorts), but we can’t deny that autumn looms ever closer, bringing with it the promise of a sharp dip in temperature, unwelcome winds and rain that necessitates practical (but not unfashionable) clothing. It is during this time that I usually suffer what I have come to term fashion limbo – it’s no longer time for summer clothes, yet nor is it time to don a pea coat and knee boots. What to wear in that middle ground between summer and winter?
This is easily enough answered – segue into tights. Ankle boots. A light coat. Perhaps a hat. Take all of autumns accessories and translate them into that between-summer-and-autumn fashion by pairing them with dresses and other summer clothes.
Topshop always have cool tights, Office is the place to go for smart boots and head to H&M for a pretty, light cotton scarf or knitted hat for the cooler evenings when you are trying to convince yourself it’s still barbecue weather. Pair darker-toned dresses with slightly-thicker-than-summer tights and some flats and you’ve neatly slotted into that middle ground
And start getting excited for autumn fashion – it’s never too soon to start debating classic trench vs. modern cape.
