Sporting Glory for University of Dundee Team

28th April 2009
Sporting stars from the University of Dundee have secured the institution’s third British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Trophy of the year.
The University’s women’s rugby team won a close-fought final by beating the University of Bath, who had gone into the game, played at Imperial College, London, as favourites.
Bath were defending an 18-15 lead when, with just a few minutes of the match remaining, full-back and Scottish Women’s International Katy Green scored a try to clinch a dramatic victory for Dundee.
The team had finished the season in third place in the Scottish Conference and had already won the Scottish Cup. Their victory follows BUCS Trophy successes for women’s squash and men’s fencing teams from the University earlier this year.
Sports Union President, Paul Blake, paid tribute to all the teams, saying, “This third victory of the season is something we’re extremely proud of. I’d like to say well done to everyone who has represented the University in sporting events this year.
“The victory for the women’s rugby team is the perfect way to draw a very successful sporting year for Dundee at BUCS-level to a close.”
